Peppermint Bark Shake (Copycat Red Robin)

If you haven’t been to your local Red Robin to get this shake (or you haven’t tried it because you aren’t sure if you’ll like it), MAKE THIS RIGHT NOW! It is ah-mazing and you won’t have to dish out $5 for just one shake! Cooling peppermint candy canes and sweet white chocolate are just a classic combo and, dare I say, even better in shake form.

Just interested in the recipe? Skip straight to it.

Now when I first saw this I was a little underwhelmed. I figured it was just like a mint chocolate shake but with the crappy, not real chocolate type of chocolate (yeah, I said it). However, I was wrong. This shake is like the embodiment of Christmas, winter, and everything wonderfully minty. It is seriously good (and seriously sweet). The peppermint candy canes kind of create an ultra cooling effect with the cold ice cream and the white chocolate sauce gives moments of creamy sweet bliss. I just can’t get enough of this!

White Chocolate Sauce

Red Robin uses Monin’s white chocolate sauce. You can order some online or try to find it at a local store near you. If you would rather make it/have to, here is a super simple recipe:

3/4 cup heavy whipping cream

6oz white chocolate chips (I used Ghiradelli)

Bring the heavy cream to a boil. Once boiling, pour the hot cream over the chocolate chips in a bowl. Let sit for one minute, and slowly start stirring to melt the chips. Once all the chocolate chips are melted, your sauce is ready to enjoy! Store in the fridge and reheat in the microwave just until it becomes viscous again (not too hot).

Peppermint Candies

For this recipe, it is very important to use peppermint candy canes. I find the mint to be softer and more well balanced than other mint candies (like star brites). You can crush the candy canes in a zippered baggie with a blunt object or using a blender, but leave them relatively chunky (will break down more in the blender). Shoot for pieces the size of chocolate chips to shelled peanuts. If they get a bit small, no worries, the flavor will still be there.

Peppermint Bark Shake (Copycat Red Robin)

  • Servings: 1 12 oz shake
  • Difficulty: Easy
  • Print

Taking peppermint bark to the next level with cooling peppermint, sweet white chocolate, and creamy vanilla ice cream.

The ice cream was measured with a dry measuring cup.

Ingredients

  • 2-3 tablespoons crushed peppermint candy canes + more for topping (see above notes about candy)
  • 1/4 + 1/8 cup milk
  • 1 1/2 cups good quality vanilla ice cream
  • 1-2 oz white chocolate sauce (see above for recommendations and a recipe)
  • Whipped cream (non-optional garnish 🙂 )

Directions

1. Blend. Add the crushed candy cane, vanilla ice cream and milk to a blender and blend until blended (what am I supposed to say??).

2. Pour and add sauce. Pour the shake into a glass of your choice and pour the white chocolate sauce directly on top (it will run down the sides of the glass). Top with whipped cream and crushed candy canes.

3. Enjoy! Pop a straw into that sucker (reusable of course) and guzzle!
